REAF supports a wide range of beneficiaries for its events both in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Palm Springs/Coachella Valley. Our focus areas for support include:
Our summer "Help is on the Way" gala is designed to support both hunger and HIV programs. In past years when REAF supported only HIV services, beneficiaries were selected on a rotating bases with different beneficiaries selected for each event each year. Currently REAF partners with PROJECT OPEN HAND on an ongoing basis as a beneficiary of our summer "Help is on the Way" gala to support their services of home-delivered meals to the elderly and other homebound people with few other sources of food and nutrition.
BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS benefits from REAF’s annual Broadway Bares SF and our “One Night Only” cabaret benefit series and helps men, women, and children across the country and across the street receive lifesaving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counseling, and emergency financial assistance. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the major supporter of essential social service programs at The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, and The Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts. We also award annual grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.
Founded in 1985, PROJECT OPEN HAND is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives. Every day, they prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco and Alameda Counties, engaging more than 125 volunteers every day to nourish our community.

Medicare can be complicated and seem to be designed only for seniors who are 65 and older. Many are not aware that Medicare also provides benefits for people living with disabilities regardless of their age. To help highlight this program for those under 65 with disabilities, we have published a comprehensive guide to understanding eligibility, coverage, and, most importantly, how to navigate the enrollment process. You can view the guide here:
